Amazon is bloody everywhere eh? From same day delivery, veg, television and now its launched the Amazon reward credit card. I’ve taken a look and you know what, it’s pretty good for a cashback card – especially if you shop at Amazon quite a bit (and who doesn’t?) because you’re getting points every time you shop, which add up to rewards.
Is the Amazon Reward credit card any good?
Anyone else remember the days of incredible cashback and rewards every-time they spent on their credit card? I used to dram of the day my credit rating would be good enough to get an airline credit card because spenders were getting free holidays and flight upgrades. Of course, by the time I did have good credit – credit card companies started slashing the perks offered on reward cards.
HOWEVER, with the Amazon Platinum card, you get a £10 Amazon gift card and reward points every time you shop. It’s especially good is you shop at Amazon.
What rewards do you get?
Once you sign up, you’ll automatically get a £10 Amazon gift card and 0.75 points per £1 spent at Amazon, and 0.5 points per £1 when you shop in other places. Once you’ve accumulated 1,000 points you’l get a £10 gift card to use at Amazon.
Now don’t go thinking you’re going to have all the Amazon freebies, because you still need to spend a whopping £1,333 at Amazon or £2,000 at other shops to earn yourself a tenner. Which is a lot, but if you’re spending the money anyway – it’s free money.
Let’s talk about the APR
The no-fee card comes with 0% interest on purchases for three months and a standard rate of 21.9% (APR) – which is frankly eye-watering. So whatever you do, don’t fall into the trap of spending more than you would normally to get the rewards.
If you don’t think you’ll be able to pay off your credit card in full every month, don’t touch it because that super high APR will sting you.
What do you think? Will you be getting the Amazon credit card? I think I might because I have a M&S one which has decent rewards, but I no longer live or work by an M&S, so aren’t building up points – think I will switch.
Sticking with my Asda cashback card. 0.5% cashback on all purchases and 1% back at Asda. Usually do at least one shop per week at Asda (although visit Aldi more often) and buy most of my fuel from Asda. Physical cash rather than rewards, credit against my statement every month. Take that everytime. 🙂
Sounds like a good shout for you. Used to love my M&S card because I’d shop in there every day (was my closest store) but no longer. I also don’t live anywhere near an Asda. Seriously considering this card as its the place I probably shop most… well actually, £1,333 at Amazon would take a long time.
That’s why I always prefer cashback… you still get something no matter how much you spend. Used to be with Capital One until they dropped their rates, but that was annoying as cost £18 per year (although you got £10 cashback [plus 1% of spend] after the first year) and also the cashback only came through once a year. It was in January so helped out after Christmas but loving the fact Asda return it the following month.
